Beykent University is a private university in Istanbul, Turkey, teaching in English. The typical enrolment is 15,000 students.

It has four faculties comprising 28 academic departments in the fields of Engineering and Architecture, Fine Arts, Science, Economics and Administrative Sciences; a school of foreign languages; and Institutes of Social Sciences and Science and Technology. The University offers both graduate and postgraduate programmes together with certificate programmes, international winter/summer schools and international workshops. It was founded by the Beykent Education Foundation and established in 1997.

Beykent University has agreements with European universities under the Socrates and Erasmus programmes, which allow university students to continue their education in a European university and foreign students to study in Turkey.

Contents

History

It was built by Adem Çelik in 1990 and donated to Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Turkey.

Adem Çelik - Beykent Education Foundation was founded by Adem Çelik in 1996. Beykent University, which belongs to this institution, is a foundation university. It was established on 9 July 1997 as a public corporation according to the Law numbered 4282.

Beykent University began its academic education in the 1997-1998 academic year with the following departments: Mathematics and Computing, in the of Faculty of Science and Letters; Cinema and TV, in the of Faculty of Fine Arts; Business Administration, in the of Faculty of Business and Administrative Sciences; Department of Architecture, in the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture; and the Preparatory Program, in the School of Foreign Languages.

The departments of English Language and Literature, Management Information Systems, International Relations, Interior Architecture, Textile Design and Graphic Design were opened in the 1998-1999 academic year; the Departments of International Trade, Communication and Design and Acting were opened in the 2000-2001 academic year; the Department of Computer Engineering was opened in the 2003-2004 academic year; the Departments of Art Management and Performing Arts, Painting, International Logistics and Transportation were opened in the 2004-2005 academic year; Cinema and TV (Turkish), Banking and Finance, Tourism Administration, Economics, Translation and Interpreting (English) were opened in the 2005-2006 academic year; Turkish Language and Literature, Psychology, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Chemical Engineering were opened in the 2006-2007 academic year; the Department of Business Administration (Turkish) and Translation and Interpreting (Russian) were opened in the 2007-2008 academic year. In addition to the last three departments, the Department of Civil Engineering, the Department of Software Engineering, the departments of Industrial Engineering, History and Economics (Turkish) were opened in the 2007-2008 academic year and were be available for student enrollment in the 2008-2009 academic year.

The Faculty of Law will offer education on our Taksim Campus. The Faculty of Communications was available for enrollment in the 2008-2009 academic year on the Büyükçekmece-Beylikdüzü Campus.

The Vocational School began with the following programs: Computer Technology and Programming, Public Relations and Advertising, Business Administration, Marketing, Radio and TV Programming in the 2003-2004 academic year; International Trade, International Logistics, Accounting, Graphics, Office Management and Secretarial Training, Banking and Insurance, Tourism Guidance and Textile programs were opened in the 2004-2005 academic year; Desktop Publishing, Catering and Cookery, Customs Administration and Child Development programs were opened in the 2005-2006 academic year; Restoration, Stock Exchange and Finance, Tourism and Travel Administration programs were opened in the 2007-2008 academic year. Furthermore, Real Estate and Estate Management, Skin Care and Beauty, Jewellery and Handicraft Design were to be opened to enrollment by 2008-2009. In addition, the facilities and opportunities the Vocational School achieved as of the 2007-2008 academic year made it possible to open “Secondary Education Programs” during secondary placement. Secondary Education Programs allow students, who are not able to attend to classes during the day, to fulfill their education by attending classes in the evening.

The Institute of Social Sciences offers graduate degree programs in the Department of Business Administration as follows: Business, Global Marketing, International Management, Human Resources and Organizational Change, Management Information Systems, Public Relations and Advertising, Hospital Management, Textile Business and Marketing, International Economy Politics and Business, Strategic Business Administration, Management Organization, Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Quantitative Methods, Business Administration, Production Management and Marketing, MBA (in-plant training), Executive MBA, Tourism Management, Hospital and Health Institutions Management, Production Management and Industrial Management. The institute offers graduate programs such as International Relations, in the Department of International Relations; English Language and Literature, in the Department of English Language and Literature; and Cinema TV Master of Arts, in the Department of Cinema TV; Communication Art and Design, in the Department of Communication and Design; Textile and Fashion Design, in the Department of Textile Design.

Institute of Science and Technology offers graduate degree programs such as Network and Computer Technology, Applied Mathematics, Information Technologies, Decision Analysis and Making Strategies in the Department of Mathematics and Computing; Computer Engineering in the Department of Computer Engineering and Architecture; Architectural Design, Construction Technology and Urban Planning in the Department of Architecture.

To sum up, 36 different graduate programs in the two institutes have been created successfully.

Today, Beykent University with its approximately 15,000 students, are the beneficiaries of its distinguished and qualified academic staff, high standard of equipment and the continual quest for improving academic excellence.

Campuses

Beylikdüzü Campus

The Beykent Büyükçekmece Beylikdüzü Campus is located at Istanbul's Büyükçekmece county within the residential area of Beykent. The 12 floor building is centered around the Beylikdüzü life center, healthcare institutions and the Tüyap Exhibition.

The 16.000 m2 closed educational complex provides modern educational facilities, laboratories, workshop studios, an auditorium, and a cultural center. The external sports area and swimming pool at the Beykent College can be used by the students of the University.

The facility houses mainly the Vocational School, which runs 38 programmes, 23 in the daytime and 15 in the evening for the benefit of working students. The Vocational School opened its doors for the 2005-2006 teaching year.

Also the newly opened Communications Faculty will be housed within this building, starting teaching in the 2008-2009 academic year.[1]

Ayazağa Campus

The Ayazaga Campus is in the Sisli region of Istanbul. This modern building opened with a 8,000 student capacity for the 2005-2006 lecture year. It provides facilities mainly for BA and BSc programmes as well as for the Turkish youth series Hepsi 1.[1]

In 2011, the Ayazaga Campus has a maximum 12,000 student capacity because of new building improvements.

Taksim Campus

Located within Istanbul's main culture and arts district, the 5000 m2 building was opened in 2004. It serves as the headquarters of the Social Sciences Institute and most post-graduate programmes are taught in this building. The Law Faculty is located in this building and began teaching in the 2008-2009 academic year.

Also in 2008-2009 the Taksim Campus began to offer its Distance Learning Programme for two, 2-year programmes. The building also is also the headquarters for the Beykent University Atatürk Research and Applied Sciences Center and the Beykent University Strategic Research Center [1]
